Alfred Ayache

Welcome to my portfolio

I'm Alfred Ayache: a generative artist. Generative art is produced, either partly or entirely, by following an algorithm or process. In my case, I write custom software to produce SVG images, which I then convert to PNG files for display on websites or printing.

I held my fist gallery show in Aug-Sept 2024 at the Arcadia Art gallery in Toronto. I had 67 pieces hung, including one from 1988, produced on a plotter. With over 40 years of work behind me, I had a lot to say; hence, the 67 pieces.

The pieces from the show are still available (each in editions of 20).

I'm also open to commissions. Drop me a line at alfred@ayache.art.

This is a first pass at my portfolio website. Expect more changes soon. To start I need to finish the shop, where I'll be adding t-shirts, as well as all the prints from the art show. I also plan on adding galleries for each modality.

Keep checking back, or sign up for the newsletter below and you'll get updates as they happen, but no more than every couple of weeks. More likely much less often.

Three Modalities: No Waiting

Modalities are what I choose to call my programs. I have three different programs to generate art. Each modality might additionally have a number of effects. Effects can really increase the variety of designs available in each modality.

The pieces above show, from left to right, Twisted Geometries, Knots, and Metropolis.

Twisted Geometries is something I started back in the 80's. I revisited it in 2015, adding a number of effects, such as rainfall, a2b, and layers, aligned and misaligned.

Knots is based on Sebastien Truchet's tile designs from the 1700's; then reworked by Cyril Stanley Smith in the 80's. I added colours, patches and an alphabet.

Metropolis was a high school project, which I revisited with a plotter aesthetic. I've added higher orders and seeds.

I'll keep adding new effects as they present themselves. But mainly, I plan on developing new modalities. Stay tuned.
